Are you currently brainstorming how to get more visitors to your local business website? You finally got your website live, now you just need customers to see it. Anyone who has ever launched their own business website has had these same concerns. We've faced those same concerns ourselves, and with each one of our clients. Luckily, we have the knowledge and experience to help every one of our clients get over the hump as quickly as possible.
There are five major ways to get more traffic to your website. Some are easier to execute than others, but all of them are doable. If you have no idea what those five ways could be, then we recommend continuing to read this article. Consider this your go-to plan :) .
Organic Search Engine Visitors
Organic search is usually the number one idea we all have to get traffic to our local business website. It's definitely a great idea, but not that easy to execute. This is where local SEO know-how comes into play. If you don't know much about local SEO (search engine optimization), then getting your website organic search traffic is not going to be easy.
For example, if you're a plumbing business, then your ultimate goal should be for your website to pop up when someone (a potential customer) searches for 'plumber near me' on Google, Yahoo or Bing. But how do you make that happen? How do you make sure you're doing local SEO right?
Luckily, thanks to Google, you can learn anything on the internet, including local SEO. If you don't have that kind of time, then there are experts out there who can do the hard work for you (like our team at Zoek)!
Search Engine Ads
If you just launched your local business website, then getting visitors from organic search engine traffic might be highly unlikely (for now). Organic search engine traffic takes time to build. But there is another great option at your disposal: paid-for search engine traffic. You know those keywords that you want to rank for? Well, you can bid on those exact keywords. You can set up Google, Yahoo, and even Bing ads. Paying for Google ads is a great way to kick-start your website and get customers clicking on your website link.
Social Media Ads
The social media revolution has brought about new ways for business owners to market their websites and get new visitors. One of those methods is social media ads. All major platforms have options for launching ad campaigns, with the most popular being Facebook, but Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube are also able to do this. With paid social media ads, you have the ability to target people in your local area. If you're a local plumbing service business you can target local homeowners with ads, and offer discount coupons in return for clicks to your website. You can offer a 15% coupon, 30% coupon, or any amount that works for you and your business.
Referral Traffic Visitors
What is referral traffic? That's when you get other websites in your local area to link to your new local business website. Getting other websites eager to talk about your business will be the difficult part, but it's not impossible. Let's go back to our plumbing example. If you own a plumbing business, then that's not something many other websites will be jumping to add a link to. So, in this case, you're going to have to utilize your creativity and offer incentives for local websites to mention you and link to you.
You can track the traffic that you receive from them, and offer a percentage of the revenues that you earn from their referral traffic. Money is always a great incentive. You can also directly pay them to link to your website. Another idea is to offer a percentage of your earnings to go to the charity of their choice. Launching a grand opening event or discount event is also a great way to get local press, news outlets, bloggers and other local business websites to mention your business.
Additionally, keep in mind that you can get referral traffic from business directories, such as Yelp and Yellow Pages. Optimize your directory profile by keeping your business information up to date, and listing your business in the appropriate section.
Traditional offline marketing is not completely dead, yet. It still has some benefits that online marketing doesn't always offer. We continue to check our mailbox a few times per week, so direct mail marketing still has its place. Sending the local residents discount deals, and incentives to check your website can work if done correctly. Print ads and radio ads can also work for the right business. But, keep in mind that these offline methods are becoming less and less effective as time passes.
